Special Competitions

(B) “SPECIAL” COMPETITIONS

These Competitions will be scored as the league competitions so that members in each group will know how they have performed within their group however the judge will be asked to declare a First, Second and Third overall for the entries..

B1. Triple Format Portfolio Competition

Each entry must consist of three images: one colour print, one monochrome print and one projected image. Submissions, which must not have been submitted for this competition previously, should follow the same rules on formatting and age as the league competitions, but images that have already been submitted or placed in league competitions may be submitted. The subjects must be totally unrelated and show the versatility of the author.

Any one set must not have two images of the same genre of photography.

Up to three sets of images may be submitted and each image must bear a title, author’s name and year taken.

B2. People Photography Competition

Each entry must consist of a projected image which features as the main subject two or more people in a candid situation. Submissions, which must not have been submitted for this competition

previously, should follow the same rules on formatting and age as league competitions, but images that have already been submitted or placed in league competitions are permitted

Up to three images may be submitted with, title author, preference and year taken.

B3. Landscape Photography Projected Image Competition

For the purposes of this competition, a landscape image is defined as one that encompasses the natural beauty, variety and breadth/depth of the landscape and so entries should focus on that aim.

The definition of landscape includes seascapes and cityscapes.

Submissions, which must not have been submitted for this competition previously, should follow the same rules on formatting and age as league competitions, but images that have already been submitted or placed in league competitions are permitted.

Up to 3 projected images may be submitted.

(C) ANNUAL EXHIBITION AWARDS

This is the main opportunity for members to show their work to members of the society, to members of other societies, and also to the public. We regret that images showing artistic nudity or similar will not be displayed in the annual public exhibition.

Members are encouraged to submit

up to five black and white prints (Each on a 40 x 50 mount)

Up to five colour prints (each on a 40 x 50 mount)

Up to five projected images

The Award Trophies for the annual exhibition are:

Print of the Year” – Best print

Slide of the Year” – Best projected image

Glendenning Rosebowl” Best landscape print

Colab Trophy” – Best landscape projected image

Camera Craft Cup” – Best print of an image taken at a Studio Group evening

Marshall Figure Trophy” Best print depicting the human figure (male or female; clothed or unclothed – but NOT a portrait – i.e. where the face or clothing is the main subject).

The Eric Earl Trophy” – Best Natural History (Flora and/or fauna) image.

This award celebrates Eric Earl’s long association with the Society. The award is for images covering everything to do with nature such as animals, birds, flowers, etc. And includes all aspects of photography including slides, projected images and prints. However, the award excludes pure landscapes as there is a separate award for these.

Entries for award trophies must be appropriately labelled to show clearly which award(s) they are to be considered for.

All Print entries submitted will be considered for print of the year

All Slide and Digitally Projected entries will be considered for slide of the year

The deadline for entry submission is in accordance with the published society programme
